Azov Battalion Celebrates 2nd Anniversary of Mariupol’s Liberation

2nd anniversary of Mariupol’s liberation by AZOV

June 12, at Freedom Square in Mariupol was held the ceremony of awarding soldiers of the AZOV regiment who heroically liberated from invaders this Ukrainian city two years ago.

Operation of Mariupol’s liberation, the 2nd anniversary of which is celebrated these days, remains one of the most successful during the entire war.

At Freedom Square in the heart of Mariupol took the floor the founder of AZOV, its first commander, who lead AZOV during the operation to free Mariupol in 2014 – Andriy Biletsky.

“We will go ahead sooner or later, and will return Ukraine to Ukraine!” said the leader of the AZOV movement.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, MP Serhiy Taruta, First Deputy Head of National Police, “Azovian” Vadym Troyan, Head of Donetsk Regional Police Vyacheslav Abroskin also made speeches. The best fighters of the AZOV regiment, National Guard and National Police received awards from the Minister of Internal Affairs.

After the military parade, which passed the main streets of Mariupol from the Musical and Drama Theatre to the Freedom Square, and solemn awarding of the soldiers, everyone could observe the vehicles of the AZOV regiment in the park named after Gurov. Besides, the guests of the event tasted delicious national dishes and could evaluate the products of Ukrainian blacksmiths, potters and other craftsmen from every corner of the country.

At 17:00 began a music concert of popular Ukrainian bands that performed in honor of Mariupol’s liberation: The Doox, Ot Vinta!, DakhaBrakha, KoraLLi, Joryj Kłoc, and Gaydamaky.

At 22:00 was demonstrated an impressive fire show which symbolically closed the event.
