On February 2, the 97th anniversary of the nation’s independence from the Soviet Union, the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (Eesti Konservatiivse Rahvaerakonna) with the Estonian Freedom Party – Farmers’ Assembly (Eesti Vabaduspartei – Põllumeeste Kogu) called on Estonians to join the torchlight parade and mark the nation’s victory in the War of Independence.
The procession began at Tartu Jaan Poska Gymnasium. Accompanied by drums, it proceeded towards Raekoja plats (Town Hall Square), where took place a meeting with the participation of Jaak Madison, Anti Poolamets, Indrek Särg, Rein Koch and others. Afterwards was recited the Tartu Peace Treaty [Peace treaty that was concluded between Estonia and Soviet Russia on February 2, 1920, thus ending the War of Independence.] Delegations of Ukrainian & Georgian nationalists were in attendance.
